The Alpes-Maritimes has two naturist campsites, both away from the coast of Nice and the Côte d’Azur, in the mountainous hinterland between the Var valley and the Verdon Gorges.
Rated 4 stars and 4.6 out of 5, Le Haut Chandelalar occupies 80 wooded hectares bordered by a river, between the Verdon Gorges and the Côte d’Azur. This family naturist campsite, affiliated with the Fédération française de naturisme, offers a wood-heated swimming pool and a paddling pool, as well as a wheelchair-accessible chalet with a private spa.
In Puget-Théniers, by the river, Origan Village welcomes a mixed clientele in a 4-star setting rated 4.4 out of 5. Its pool, heated to 28°C, is complemented by a 50-metre slide, a jacuzzi and a paddling pool, as well as a wellness area offering Thai massages. A free shuttle connects the Puget-Théniers train station to the campsite, and Entrevaux and Mercantour National Park are both an hour’s drive away.
Both establishments, rated 4 stars and affiliated with the FEN, favour mountains and rivers over the Mediterranean: heated pool, wooded setting, between the Verdon and Mercantour. Le Haut Chandelalar suits families looking for wheelchair access and the calm of a large wooded estate, while Origan Village suits more active stays, with full water facilities and a train link from Nice. Check opening dates and availability with each establishment before booking your naturist campsite stay.
Between the Verdon Gorges and the Var valley, the hinterland of the Alpes-Maritimes offers hiking and white-water sports away from the crowds on the coast. In Puget-Théniers, the station links the campsite to Nice via the Train des Pignes of the Chemins de fer de Provence, a historic narrow-gauge line that follows the Var as far as Digne-les-Bains. A few kilometres away, Entrevaux, a village fortified by Vauban, can be explored on foot along the path that climbs up to its citadel.
Towards Briançonnet, Mercantour National Park stretches out to the north, with its hiking trails and alpine wildlife, while the Verdon Gorges, to the southwest, rank among the largest canyons in Europe. The Côte d’Azur, from Nice to Cannes, remains within one to two hours’ drive of both campsites, making it easy to combine a quiet naturist stay with seaside or city outings.
Every for naturists campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.
We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.
