Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur brings together eleven naturist campsites across five departments, from the Verdon Gorges to the foot of Mont Ventoux, amid pine forests, plateaus and mountainous hinterland.
The Alpes-de-Haute-Provence has the largest number of naturist campsites in the region, four in total, between the lakes of the Verdon, in Esparron-de-Verdon and Valensole, and the hills of Forcalquier and the Luberon, in Limans and Reillanne. In the Var, three campsites share the pine forest of Belgentier, the Pays de Fayence and the hinterland of Figanières, with profiles ranging from a large 4-star estate to a more low-key site geared towards hiking.
The two naturist campsites of the Alpes-Maritimes are located in the mountainous hinterland, in Briançonnet and Puget-Théniers, by a river rather than on the Côte d’Azur, between the Verdon Gorges and Mercantour National Park.
In the Vaucluse, Domaine de Bélézy, in Bédoin, rated 5 stars, occupies 25 hectares of pine forest around an 18th-century farmhouse, between the Luberon and Mont Ventoux, with three naturist pools and a thalassotherapy centre. In the Bouches-du-Rhône, Camping Naturiste Messidor, in Puy-Sainte-Réparade, rated 3 stars and close to Aix-en-Provence, offers a mobile home certified for disabled access and naturist beaches 50 minutes away, towards Martigues.
Most of the region’s naturist campsites have a heated pool, complemented by a spa or wellness centre at the top-rated establishments, such as Domaine de Bélézy in the Vaucluse. Accommodation ranges from bare pitches for a tent or motorhome to fully equipped mobile homes and chalets, with several estates accessible to people with reduced mobility, such as Camping Naturiste Messidor. Guest reviews remain very favourable across the whole region, between 4 and 5 out of 5 for most establishments.
For a stay by a lake, head to the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. For hiking in pine forest or hinterland, the Var and the Alpes-Maritimes offer more low-key estates. For a large upmarket estate between vineyards and Mont Ventoux, the Vaucluse relies on Domaine de Bélézy, while the Bouches-du-Rhône makes it easy to branch out from Aix-en-Provence. Each department page details its establishments, their facilities and surroundings.
Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur combines sea, mountains and heritage: the Verdon Gorges, one of the largest canyons in Europe, separate the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence from the Var, while Mont Ventoux towers over the Vaucluse and the Mercantour massif protects the hinterland of Nice. On the coast, Nice, Cannes and Marseille concentrate museums, beaches and city life, within less than two hours’ drive of most of the region’s naturist campsites.
Provençal markets, such as those of Forcalquier or Aix-en-Provence, give rhythm to the summer, while the hilltop villages of the Luberon and the hinterland of the Var are well suited to hiking or cycling. Off the coast of Hyères, Île du Levant preserves a unique naturist heritage in France, with the village of Héliopolis, founded in the 1930s and still active today.
Every for naturists campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.
We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.
