8 listed naturist campsites are by a river. Five are in Occitanie, notably around the Gard and the Pyrenees, one in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, one in the Grand Est and one in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, a region combining the Alps and the Riviera coastline.
In Aniane, in the Hérault, La Source Saint Pierre has run along the Hérault river for 50 years, with direct access to the pont du Diable gorges. In the Gard, Domaine de La Genèse, in Méjannes-le-Clap, borders the Cèze along 800 metres of naturist beach and lends three free canoes to explore it, while Domaine de la Sablière, in Barjac, has two private riverside beaches, in the Cèze gorges. In the Pyrénées-Orientales, at the foot of the Canigou, Centre Naturiste du Mas de la Balma benefits from two natural bodies of water. In the Hautes-Pyrénées, in Occitanie, Domaine de l'Eglantière runs along the Gers with direct river access, on an Ecocert-certified organic farm.
In Nouvelle-Aquitaine, in Corrèze, Camping Aimée Porcher, in Eyburie, is crossed by the Vézère river across 17 hectares. In the Aube, Champ du Moulin, in Verrières, offers private access to the Seine. In the Alpes-Maritimes, on the Côte d'Azur, in Puget-Théniers, Origan Village runs along a river with a 28°C pool and a 50-metre water slide, close to numerous outdoor activities.
A river generally offers cooler, more natural swimming than a pool, sometimes with activities such as canoeing, offered free at La Genèse. Check the water flow and swimming safety depending on the season, as well as whether a pool is available as a complement if the water level varies widely, which is common in summer in southern regions.
In the Gard, the Cèze gorges, around La Genèse and Domaine de la Sablière, are a hotspot for canoe-kayaking and hiking, 25 minutes from the Pont d'Arc and the Salamandre cave, in the neighbouring Ardèche. In the Hérault, the pont du Diable gorges, near La Source Saint Pierre, can be visited on foot or by canoe from Aniane.
In the Pyrénées-Orientales, Centre Naturiste du Mas de la Balma opens onto the Canigou massif and its hiking trails. In the Aube, Champ du Moulin is close to Troyes, whose historic centre is easy to visit. In the Alpes-Maritimes, on the Côte d'Azur, Origan Village is an hour from the Mercantour and the Mediterranean, well suited to outdoor activities.
Before booking, check the river's water level over the course of the season, which can drop significantly in summer, and whether a pool complements river swimming at the chosen site.
Every for naturists campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.
We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.
