Camping du Port is located at 4 rue du Port, in La Ronde, in the Charente-Maritime, in the heart of the Marais Poitevin, the network of canals nicknamed the Venise Verte. The site is around 40 minutes from La Rochelle and its harbour, 45 minutes from a naturist beach and 40 minutes from the seaside resort of Châtelaillon-Plage.
The wooded grounds cover 1.5 hectares and have 55 partly shaded, partly sunny pitches, as well as several mobile homes of 20 to 33 m², with 2 or 3 bedrooms, including one model adapted for people with reduced mobility. The sanitary facilities, showers and the area reserved for people with reduced mobility have been fully refurbished in recent years.
Dorothée and Loïc took over the campsite in 2023, with their two daughters, after working for almost twenty years in the medical field. Several holidaymaker reviews describe a quiet, friendly, family-sized place, suited both to long-time naturists and to newcomers; some even mention an atmosphere close to a guesthouse, where people take the time to chat with their pitch neighbours.
The campsite is open from 18 April to the end of September. The heated indoor pool, between 25 and 28 degrees, operates from May to September, protected by a UV-blocking cover on bad-weather days so guests can keep swimming even in cool weather.
A snack bar opens certain days and evenings depending on availability, closed on Wednesday evening; bread is delivered in July and August, and the campsite also sources from Le Comptoir Local, a network of producers from the Aunis and Marais Poitevin areas. Shared barbecues, wood-fired or charcoal, are made available in a dedicated corner for gatherings, and some weekend evenings end with music, sometimes around a karaoke session.
The heated indoor pool, between 25 and 28 degrees, operates from May to September, protected by a UV-blocking cover on overcast days. Wifi is free, electricity is available at 10A, and the campsite practises waste sorting and composting. Reception is open from 8:30am to 12:30pm and 2pm to 7:30pm in high season, and from 8:45am to midday and 2pm to 7pm in low and mid season.
The mobile homes are equipped with a kitchenette for six people (microwave, kettle, coffee maker for ground coffee), with an indoor and outdoor table and chairs; pillows, duvets and mattress protectors are provided, but sheets and towels need to be brought. Dogs are welcome, kept on a lead and vaccinated, with the exception of category 1 and 2 dogs.
The campsite organises a weekly festive meal by reservation, as well as a paella on 14 July and 15 August. In high season, pétanque competitions, games and barbecues among campers liven up the evenings under the porch, sometimes with a concert or a musical evening.
A children’s play area (trampoline, swing, slide) has been set up on the grounds. The Marais Poitevin, a network of canals nicknamed the Venise Verte, is best explored by boat, bike or on horseback, with the Écomusée du Marais nearby. From the rural village of Damvix, a 9-kilometre route follows the maritime canals to Marans, suitable on foot, by bike or by boat; Coulon, on the edge of Niort, is considered the capital of the area, with its landing stages for setting off to explore the region.
In La Rochelle, 40 minutes away, the harbour with its two medieval towers, the aquarium and the maritime museum can be visited, with boat crossings to the islands of Ré, Oléron or Aix, or to the neighbouring Vendée. A naturist beach is 45 minutes away, and the seaside resort of Châtelaillon-Plage 40 minutes away, rounding out a stay combining marshland, cycling and seaside. The Vendée and its beaches are also less than an hour’s drive away, for a day out at sea or a stroll along the Atlantic coast.
Open from 18 April to the end of September.
