Terme d’Astor is a naturist campsite located in Saint-Avit-Rivière, in the Dordogne, at the heart of the Périgord, between Bergerac and Sarlat-la-Canéda. The estate spans around twenty hectares of woods and meadows, laid out on the site of a former 17th-century farmhouse that gives it its character. Its name, which evokes a place of fulfilment, refers to the Astor hill found on the property. The same family has welcomed holidaymakers there for around forty years.
Naturism at Terme d’Astor is family-oriented: couples, families with children and regulars mix in a friendly atmosphere, each experiencing nudity at their own pace. Pets are welcome on the site on a lead, but are not allowed in the bar-restaurant.
Rated 3 stars, the site has around a hundred pitches as well as several types of rental accommodation: wooden chalets, mobile homes, furnished tents and a gypsy caravan. The Doerac chalet is fitted out for people with reduced mobility, with an adapted double room and bathroom. Getting around is mainly done on foot; cars stay in the entrance car park, except when arriving and departing.
The campsite is open from May to early October. Arrival is free from 3pm and departure before 10am, even in high season, giving holidaymakers some flexibility. Payment can be made by card, cash or cheque.
What the site says about its approach to naturism: “Family naturism: couples, families and regulars share the estate, each experiencing nudity at their own pace, within the bounds of a code of conduct.”
The campsite’s bar-restaurant offers continuous service throughout the day: breakfast on the terrace, drinks and snacks such as tapas or salads as guests fancy. Once a week in high season, a shared meal brings holidaymakers together for a convivial evening. Dogs are not allowed in this area.
A small shop sells, among other things, the tokens needed for the professional washing machines and tumble dryers installed in the sanitary blocks. A library, set up in the mezzanine above the bar, offers books in French and English, to borrow or swap. The rental accommodation is equipped with wifi.
The wellness area includes an outdoor pool around 20 metres long, a paddling pool for the youngest visitors, a large jacuzzi and a sauna. Sun loungers and a terrace make the most of the Périgord sunshine, with a bar nearby for a cool drink or an ice cream.
At reception, small trolleys make it easy to carry shopping from the large entrance car park. Cots and high chairs are provided free of charge on request, and bed linen is available to rent for those who don’t bring their own. Electrical sockets, to European standards, are rated at 10 amps, and the campsite also welcomes motorhomes.
The campsite offers sporting and convivial activities throughout the season: a pétanque pitch, volleyball tournaments organised at any time for adults and supervised for children in high season. Piano, guitar and board games are available at the bar, where a large screen shows sporting events in the evenings.
In high season, free activities are offered to children: treasure hunts, pool games or a large inflatable slide, following a programme tailored to what they enjoy. A play area rounds out the offer for the youngest visitors.
Two naturist walking trails, marked with small wooden arrows, set off from the estate to explore the surrounding woods, a stream and a spring. Beyond the campsite, the Périgord invites visitors to discover the Dordogne valley, its villages and châteaux, between Bergerac and Sarlat.
Holidaymakers can also get involved in campsite life: suggesting a themed evening, playing an instrument, or even taking a turn in the kitchen for a meal. Regulars regularly organise pétanque tournaments and musical or festive evenings.
Open from May to early October.
