At Les Mathes, in the La Palmyre seaside area, in the Charente-Maritime, the Le Petit Dauphin naturist campsite is located at 1696 route de La Fouasse, around 5 km from the fine sandy naturist beaches of the Côte Sauvage. La Palmyre harbour is 5 km away, Royan’s 23 km, and La Tremblade 7 km. The Zoo de la Palmyre and the Luna Park, lively on summer evenings, are just a few hundred metres away. Annie and Régis welcome holidaymakers to this part of the Charente-Maritime.
Rated 3 stars, the establishment remains a small family-run site with 103 shaded pitches of around 100 m² each, split between mobile home rentals and pitches for tents, caravans or motorhomes. A cycle path has led directly to the campsite entrance since 2018, and two sanitary blocks, one of which is heated outside the season, complete the site’s facilities.
The naturism practised here is family-friendly and convivial, in a respectful atmosphere where everyone enjoys the sun at their own pace. A simple rule is reinforced on site: a hot, soapy shower is compulsory before every swim in the pool, to preserve water quality and the spirit of the place.
The campsite opens every year from 25 April to 30 September. Reception is staffed from 8am to midday and 2pm to 7pm, and booking a pitch or a mobile home is done by phone or email directly with the campsite.
What the site says about its approach to naturism: “Family-friendly, convivial naturism. A hot, soapy shower is compulsory before every swim in the pool.”
The campsite has a licensed snack bar, open every day from 7am to 11pm from 25 April to 30 September. It offers bread and pastries baked on site every morning, a breakfast (hot drink, half a baguette or pastry, butter and jam), a lunch set menu from midday to 2pm, and a themed menu every evening of the week in season. A barbecue area is also available to campers. A few kilometres away, Les Mathes (3.5 km), La Palmyre (5 km) and La Tremblade (7 km) offer a grocery shop, tobacconist-newsagent and pharmacy.
The heated indoor pool, fitted with a retractable roof, keeps the water between 25 and 29°C from 25 April to 30 September. Sun loungers are provided free of charge around the pool, whose 1.31 m water depth also allows for water volleyball; a paddling pool welcomes the youngest visitors. A hot, soapy shower is compulsory before every swim.
Wifi is free across the whole campsite. Two sanitary blocks, one of which is heated outside the season, include free hot showers and a bathroom fitted with a baby bath. A launderette is available (token at €5.50 without detergent or €6 with), as well as a service point for motorhomes and chemical toilets. Pitches have a 10-amp electrical hook-up.
A cycle path has led directly to the campsite since 2018 and connects to the more than 100 km network of cycle paths in the Charente-Maritime. Evenings during the week are enlivened with a themed menu and dance evenings, in a family and friendly atmosphere. A few hundred metres away, the Luna Park brings life to summer evenings: open from 8pm to 2am in July and August, with the music switched off at 11:30pm.
La Palmyre harbour, 5 km away, allows for various water activities, as does Royan’s, 23 km away. The fine sandy naturist beaches of the Côte Sauvage, described by the campsite as among the finest on the coast, are around 5 km away. Quad bike outings and tree-top adventure courses are also on offer in the surrounding area.
The Zoo de la Palmyre can be visited near the campsite, as can the Zagal cabaret with its equestrian dinner show. La Tremblade’s oyster harbour, 7 km away, offers insight into the local shellfish-farming trade, and the islands of Oléron, Aix and Ré round out the options for a day trip from the campsite.
Open from 25 April to 30 September.
