The Club Naturiste de Besançon (CNB) is set in Osselle-Routelle, in the Doubs, 400 metres past the edge of the village towards Torpes, around 20 kilometres from Besançon. The EuroVelo 6 route (Nantes-Budapest) passes through Osselle; a bakery is located in Torpes, less than 2 kilometres away, and shops in Saint-Vit, 7 kilometres away.
Founded in 1969, the CNB is a non-profit association affiliated with the Fédération Française de Naturisme, bringing together around a hundred members on an enclosed, wooded 3-hectare site on the forest edge. The pool, 15 x 7 metres, is surrounded by a sun terrace and shaded lawns; it is fitted with a safety fence and a handrail, maintained and tested daily by members, and checked monthly by the Besançon university hospital (CHRU).
The club, with no paid staff, runs entirely on the volunteer work of its members, who together maintain the pool, the sanitary facilities and the green spaces. Membership is primarily aimed at couples and families, with or without children; single men are only very rarely accepted. Three of the twenty pitches are reserved for visiting naturists holding an FFN licence, with no obligation to join the club.
The grounds are open from 1 May to mid-September, with the pool operating from June to mid-September. Arrivals take place before 7pm.
What the site says about its approach to naturism: “Association affiliated with the FFN that favours couples and families; single men are only very rarely accepted. Visiting naturists holding an FFN licence are welcome on the visitor pitches, with no membership obligation.”
The communal “home” area includes fridges, hot water and various facilities shared by members and visiting campers. Picnic tables, in shade and in sun, and a large outdoor stone barbecue allow guests to prepare meals on site; the club offers neither a restaurant nor a snack bar, with everyone bringing their own supplies.
The sanitary facilities include toilets cleaned daily and free hot showers. A fully equipped rental chalet, but without sanitary facilities or hot water, sleeps up to 4 people; the twenty pitches take tents, caravans and motorhomes, three of them reserved for visiting naturists holding an FFN licence.
All the facilities, including the pool, are maintained by the members themselves: the CNB employs no staff. The pool is notably tested daily by club members, in addition to the monthly check carried out by the Besançon CHRU.
The club offers a discovery package of 5 visits for people wishing to get to know the place and meet the members before considering annual membership, the cost of the discovery package being deducted from it.
The 15 x 7 metre pool, open from 10am to 10pm during the season, remains the heart of club life, surrounded by its sun terrace and shaded lawns. On the grounds, members and their guests enjoy a pétanque pitch, a volleyball court, a table tennis table and games for children, as well as a library set up in the communal area.
Club life sets the rhythm of the season: the CNB organises gatherings and open days, where visitors can drop by for a few hours to relax, swim or pursue their favourite physical activity, without waiting for the summer holidays. Newcomers can discover the grounds at an appointment arranged with the committee, before making full use of the discovery package.
Nearby, the Osselle caves are less than 2 kilometres away, the Saline royale of Arc-et-Senans around fifteen kilometres away, and Besançon, capital of the Franche-Comté, around twenty kilometres away. The EuroVelo 6 cycle route, linking Nantes to Budapest, runs directly through the village of Osselle.
Grounds open from 1 May to mid-September, pool from June to mid-September.
