The site Le Cardinal, in Domèvre-en-Haye in Meurthe-et-Moselle, belongs to the Union Gymnique de Lorraine (UGL), a club affiliated with the Fédération Française de Naturisme since 1965. The site occupies six hectares of clearings deep in the forest, at the heart of the Parc naturel régional de Lorraine, about 35 km from Nancy, 60 km from Metz and 65 km from Bar-le-Duc.
Around a hundred members share this site in a family-friendly, welcoming atmosphere, where the shared practice of nudity is rooted in respect for oneself, others and the environment. Day visitors are welcomed from 1 May to 15 September, provided they present an FFN licence or an international naturism licence beyond a first free discovery day. Photography is banned on the site, and any ambiguous behaviour results in immediate exclusion.
Reception is open from 9am to midday and from 2pm to 6pm. The pitches, set in wooded clearings, all have a 10-amp electrical hook-up; charging vehicles, however, is not allowed.
Run by volunteers, the club has renovated its sanitary facilities and rolled out free wifi across the whole site since 2026. Dogs and other pets are not allowed.
What the site says about its approach to naturism: “FFN licence or international naturism licence required beyond a first free discovery day. Nudity practised communally with respect for naturist ethics; photography is banned on the site.”
Le Cardinal offers no catering on site: no fresh bread for sale and no light meals, as the volunteers who run reception are happy to point out. However, the village of Domèvre-en-Haye, in the Toulois area, is a few minutes’ walk away and has a GP, a pharmacy, a dentist, a pizzeria, a bar-restaurant, a post office and a grocery shop.
The secure outdoor pool is the site’s flagship facility; it opens from 1 June to 31 August, with children’s access remaining the responsibility of their parents. The sanitary facilities (showers, washbasins and toilets) have recently been fully refurbished, and each pitch has a 10-amp electrical hook-up, though charging electric vehicles is not permitted. Since the 2026 season, free wifi has covered the whole site.
Pets are not accepted on the site. Arrival takes place during reception opening hours, from 9am to midday and from 2pm to 6pm; the club’s volunteers remain reachable for any practical questions about the stay.
Outdoor games take centre stage at Le Cardinal, for children and adults alike: games of petanque in the shade of the trees, shared moments around the communal barbecue and convivial meals under the awning or in the shade of the large hornbeam tree. The club has organised an interregional petanque tournament and continues to host inter-club gatherings with other naturist associations from the region.
The club’s calendar sets the rhythm of the season: open-air concerts, themed evenings and the national open day “Osez le naturisme”, which lets the curious visit the site and meet the members. Communal work days also bring volunteer members together to maintain the site, in the friendly spirit the club prides itself on.
The site lends itself to relaxing in the forest, in its shaded clearings where squirrels and deer live. Nearby, the Parc naturel régional de Lorraine invites walking and exploring the Toulois area, less than an hour’s drive from Nancy, Metz or Bar-le-Duc.
