Everything about the campsites for naturists in Pyrénées-Orientales

Pyrénées-Orientales has two naturist campsites in the mountains, both at the foot of the Canigou massif: the Centre Naturiste du Mas de la Balma, in Montbolo, and Le P’Tit Bonheur, in Escaro, in the Catalan Pyrenees.

Two addresses at the foot of the Canigou

The Centre Naturiste du Mas de la Balma, a family campsite established since 1976, covers 62 hectares at the foot of the Canigou. It has a chlorine-free natural pool, fed by two natural bodies of water, and offers five naturist walking trails to explore the estate on foot. Le P’Tit Bonheur, in Escaro, is a mixed campsite rated 2 stars: on its grounds, a separate 2-hectare naturist area welcomes naturist holidaymakers, with its own chemical-free natural pool, at 900 metres altitude in the Catalan Pyrenees. Chalet, mobile home and yurt rentals round out the offer, and home-made bread baked in a wood oven is offered every Wednesday.

Choosing a naturist campsite in Pyrénées-Orientales

For an entirely naturist stay, with hiking on site and swimming in the natural pool, the Centre Naturiste du Mas de la Balma, in Montbolo, has offered a dedicated setting for almost fifty years. For a stay at altitude, in a mixed setting with a reserved naturist area, Le P’Tit Bonheur, in Escaro, offers a wider choice of accommodation, between chalet, mobile home and yurt. Both establishments benefit from the Canigou massif, designated a Grand Site de France, for hiking, outdoor activities and the calm of Catalan nature, far from the bustle of the Roussillon coast at the height of the summer season.

What to see and do in Pyrénées-Orientales

The Canigou massif, designated a Grand Site de France since 2012, towers over the whole of Roussillon and offers a panorama over the Mediterranean and the surrounding Pyrenean peaks. Considered the sacred mountain of the Catalans, it has 750 kilometres of marked trails, to be enjoyed at one’s own pace, from family walks to more sporty climbs. From Prades, guided excursions allow the massif to be explored all year round, including snowshoeing in winter.

Near the Mas de la Balma, in Montbolo, the Catalan gorges and villages can be explored on foot. From Escaro, the road leads to the spa towns of Molitg-les-Bains and to Villefranche-de-Conflent, a fortified town listed among the Most Beautiful Villages of France, half an hour’s drive away, with its yellow train climbing up to the Cerdagne.
