Gard, in Occitania in the south of France, has two naturist campsites, both located in the heart of the Cèze gorges massif, at the gateway to the Cévennes: Domaine de La Genèse in Méjannes-le-Clap and Domaine de la Sablière in Barjac. These two campsites offer a setting for a naturist holiday amid nature, between river and pine forest.
At Domaine de La Genèse, a naturist campsite rated 3 stars covering 26 hectares, the Cèze runs alongside 800 metres of naturist beach and can be explored by canoe thanks to three canoes lent free of charge during the stay. The pool, heated to 28°C, and its slide complete the campsite’s facilities, along with a kids’ club and a teens’ club open in July and August. Domaine de la Sablière, a 4-star naturist campsite in Barjac, offers two private riverside beaches and an indoor pool with a retractable dome fitted with two slides. With 504 pitches and accommodation units, including one accessible to people with reduced mobility, this campsite is the larger of the two sites in Gard by area; it has welcomed naturist holidaymakers for more than fifty years.
For a family stay with supervised entertainment, Domaine de La Genèse relies on its kids’ and teens’ clubs in high season and on exploring the Cèze by canoe. For a larger campsite, with a wide choice of pitches and an indoor pool usable even in cool weather, Domaine de la Sablière offers more capacity for a naturist stay with family or friends. Both campsites lie in the heart of the limestone plateau of Méjannes-le-Clap, known for its 100 kilometres of marked trails to explore on foot, horseback or by bike, close to the Pont d’Arc and the Grotte de la Salamandre.
The limestone plateau of Méjannes-le-Clap, designated a sensitive natural area, can be explored over 100 kilometres of marked trails, on foot, horseback or by bike, amid dolmens, dry-stone huts (capitelles) and sinkholes (avens) carved into the karst. The Cèze forms three natural beaches there with picnic tables, at Roy, Terris and Quittard. Fans of underground sites head to the Grotte de la Salamandre, near the Pont d’Arc, one of the most spectacular caves in Gard.
About fifteen kilometres away, Barjac, a village of character nicknamed the Renaissance town, is worth visiting for its old streets and its market. The Cèze valley and its gorges, designated Natura 2000, are also suited to aquatic hiking and river swimming, in an environment that has remained wild between Gard and Ardèche.
Every for naturists campsite is checked against its official listing and real photos, not a marketing pitch.
We cross-check public Google ratings and reviews. An establishment below family standards doesn't make the selection.
