Mayenne Nature is a naturist club campsite located at the hamlet of Le Taillis, in Soulgé-sur-Ouette, in the Mayenne department (53210), between Laval and Le Mans. The association runs ‘le petit bois’, a wooded 3-hectare clearing that has been open to naturists from the Mayenne and beyond since the 1960s.
The site welcomes both members and day-visiting holidaymakers, from 1 May to 30 September, on pitches with water or with water and electricity. The association is affiliated with the Fédération Française de Naturisme and issues the FFN licence to its members; non-member visitors are received without a licence, at the nightly rate.
Naturism here is practised as a family: membership is open to families, couples and single people without exception, in an atmosphere described as friendly. The association presents family practice as a factor of balance for children, in a wooded setting where the aim is to get to know nature in order to respect it better. The association’s calendar sets the pace of the year with themed meals and festive days, including outside the season for day visitors.
Reception is not available between 12pm and 2pm during the season. The campsite has sanitary facilities suited to people with reduced mobility.
What the site says about its approach to naturism: “Association affiliated with the Fédération Française de Naturisme, which issues the FFN licence to its members. Day-visiting holidaymakers are welcomed without membership or a licence from 1 May to 30 September, at the nightly rate.”
On site, a ‘petit home’ serves as a communal living space: free wifi, a television, a fridge and a microwave are available, with sanitary facilities suited to people with reduced mobility. Free bike loans allow outings beyond the site, and communal barbecues are freely available. On-site catering remains occasional: it is limited to evenings organised by the association.
A pool with a sun terrace equips the site for fine weather. Close by, in the village of Soulgé-sur-Ouette (around 2 km), there’s a bakery-patisserie, a bar-tobacconist-newsagent and a restaurant offering quick set menus and à la carte dishes. For larger shopping trips, the supermarkets of Bonchamp-lès-Laval (12 km) and Laval (20 km) take over.
On the health side, the association lists nearby services: doctors close by, a hospital in Laval (20 km) and a veterinary clinic in Bonchamp-lès-Laval (12 km), in addition to the usual emergency numbers.
The 3-hectare site is set up for sporting and recreational activities: pétanque pitches, table tennis, volleyball, badminton and table football share the space, with a playground and swings for children. A pond in the naturist zone is reserved for fishing and relaxing by the water. Air rifle shooting competitions are held on festive days, and a walking trail crosses the site’s woods.
Association life sets the pace of the calendar, with themed meals almost every month: sauerkraut and Epiphany cake in January, raclette in February, an Easter egg hunt at Easter, black pudding in April, pot-au-feu on 1 May, couscous in July, paella and a grilled ham day in August, cassoulet and bingo in October, the annual general meeting in November and a New Year’s Eve party in December. These meals require sign-up with the association.
Around the site, the rural Mayenne invites walks between Laval and Le Mans, in a setting of woods and countryside suited to day trips.
Open to day-visiting holidaymakers from 1 May to 30 September. Members have access to the site year-round.
