In Boulogne-sur-Helpe, in the Nord department, the Aquadétente site occupies a stretch of bocage countryside at the heart of the Avesnois Regional Nature Park. The association L’Eden Avesnois, recognised by the Fédération française de naturisme (FFN) under number 318 since 23 September 1997, acquired this site in early March 2000; four years of building and landscaping work preceded its opening on 1 March 2004.
The site has 40 spacious pitches, with or without electricity, laid out around a fishing pond. Showers, toilets and a dishwashing area complete the facilities, alongside a heated pool, a pétanque court, a volleyball court and a shared barbecue. Dogs on a lead are welcome, provided they stay on their owner’s fenced pitch.
The association takes an open-minded approach: everyone is welcomed regardless of their opinions or beliefs, as long as they remain respectful of others. The atmosphere it aims for is friendly and family-oriented, built on tolerance and good humour rather than a strict set of rules.
Access is by annual membership (FFN licence included) or by the day, with or without an FFN or FNI licence. The site is located on the N2 between Maubeuge and Laon, a few kilometres south of Avesnes-sur-Helpe, at the entrance to Étrœungt.
What the site says about its approach to naturism: “Members' site recognised by the Fédération française de naturisme (no. 318 since 1997), open to everyone with respect for others; friendly, family atmosphere, tolerance required. Day access possible with or without an FFN or FNI licence.”
No restaurant or permanent bar is offered on site, but members have access to a shared barbecue, around which they also organise themed meals throughout the season (barbecues, paella, mussels and chips…). Nearby, a bakery and a farm selling local produce help with everyday needs; supermarkets and all other shops are found in the surrounding area, with a weekly market on Fridays. The nearest pharmacy is in Avesnes-sur-Helpe, 10 km away.
The site’s heated pool, open to members and their guests, is complemented by a fishing pond where anyone can settle in with their rod. Hot showers, toilets and dishwashing areas equip the shared sanitary block.
Access is by annual membership (FFN licence included in the fee) or by a daily rate: €8 for an adult with an FFN or FNI licence, €15 for an unlicensed adult, free for under-18s. A day pitch, including electricity for two people, costs €26.50 in July-August and €21.50 outside the season; a tourist tax of €0.25 per night and per adult is added.
On site, children have access to a play area, and adults to a pétanque court and a volleyball court. The association also runs a calendar full of get-togethers between members: inter-club meets, general assemblies, themed days and shared meals punctuate the season, in keeping with the friendly spirit the site aims for.
The Avesnois Regional Nature Park all around invites hiking and mountain biking along the bocage’s rivers: the Helpe mineure, which winds through countless meanders, and the livelier Thure and Solre. Water sports enthusiasts head to Val Joly, the Hayon pond or the Eau d’Heure dams for sailing, windsurfing, water-skiing or motorboating.
The region also has numerous historic sites: the Vauban fortress at Maubeuge, the Charles de Croÿ châteaux at Beaumont and Chimay, the Fourmies museum, dedicated to the textile industry and local social life, and the hand-thrown pottery workshops of Sars-Poterie.
Site open all year round to members; day visitors welcome by request.
