Naturist wellness: sauna, spa and thalasso at naturist campsites

Key takeaways

  • Wellness is a strength of naturist campsites: in our selection, 43 sites have a sauna and 32 offer massages.
  • Euronat is home to a 1,500 m² naturist thalassotherapy centre, also open to non-residents.
  • Riva Bella, in Corsica, has a 500 m² thalasso right by the sea; Bélézy, in Provence, a balneo centre with tailor-made treatments.
  • 10 sites have an indoor pool, ideal in spring and autumn.

Sauna, hammam, hot tubs: in many wellness areas, you end up without a swimsuit anyway. Naturist campsites have understood this and invest in facilities that are often more extensive than at conventional campsites. Here is what you will find, where to go, and the rules to know. For the basics, see our guide to naturist camping.

The best-equipped addresses

Euronat, in the Médoc, is home to a 1,500 m² naturist thalassotherapy centre that is also open to people not staying on site: a seawater pool heated to 31°C, two saunas, a hammam, a jacuzzi, two solariums, massages and beauty treatments by appointment.

Riva Bella, on Corsica’s east coast, offers a 500 m² thalasso right by the sea: marine hydrotherapy, hammam, bio-sauna, massages with Corsican essential oils, seaweed wraps. A sauna is also freely available on the beach in the late afternoon, on registration.

Bélézy, at the foot of Mont Ventoux, has a naturist balneo centre that puts together tailor-made treatment programmes: bubbling baths, relaxing jets, hammam, massages and even baby massages. Its 750 m² pool looks out over the Ventoux.

Bagheera, in Corsica, has set up its wellness area facing the sea, open from April to October, with a free-access sauna and massages by reservation.

Other sites combine sauna, massages and baths: Le Colombier in the Vendée, Origan Village in the hills behind Nice, Les Manoques in Occitanie or the Verdon Provence campsite, with spa and sauna by Lac d’Esparron.

Making the most of the shoulder seasons

An indoor pool makes all the difference in spring and autumn, when nights are cool. In our selection, 10 sites have one, including Euronat, La Sablière in the Cèze gorges, Domaine Laborde in the Lot-et-Garonne, Domaine de la Gagère in the Morvan and Creuse Nature. Find them all on our page naturist campsites with an indoor pool.

The rules in wellness areas

  • A towel on sauna and hammam benches, for hygiene, as everywhere else on the campsite.
  • A shower before entering the pools and the sauna.
  • Quiet: these are places for relaxation, so speak softly and leave your phone in the changing room.
  • Contraindications: if you are pregnant or have heart or blood pressure problems, ask a doctor before using the sauna or hammam, and drink water.
  • Bookings: massages and treatments often need to be booked in advance, especially in summer.

Keep moving too: yoga, aqua aerobics, hiking

Wellness is not just about treatments. 19 sites in our selection offer yoga and 17 aqua aerobics, often outdoors. At Arnaoutchot in the Landes, yoga, aqua aerobics and a gym complement each other; at the Verdon Provence campsite, a naturist hike leads to the sunset over the lake.
